Occupation:
Address: Crook Of Devon
Role: Mother Compeared
Details: Compeared Ann Honeyman, Crook of Devon, and confessed herself guilty of fornication. Being warned by the Modr to declare the truth, and interrogated, she named David Morison, Crook of Devon as the father of her pregnancy, declares that she has told him of her being with child, and that he denies having been guilty with her. Being asked whether she has any evidence to bring forward in support of her accusation, she named for that purpose Isabel Porter, Charles Pearson, Mayes$ McRobbie and Rebecca Niddry. Declares that he was twice guilty with her - the first time - shortly after Mart[inma]sin John Niddry's park between six and seven O'Clock in the evening, and the second time, about eight o'clock a few nights afterwards at the same place.
The Session appoint the said David Morison to be summoned to attend the Session on this day two weeks, and the woman is cited apud acta to be present.'

Occupation:

Role: Mother Compeared not, confined
Details: Compeared in consequence of summons David Morison, accused of the sin of fornication with Ann Honeyman. Being solemnly warned by the Modr. to declare the truth, and interrogated, absolutely denies the paternity of Ann Honeyman's child, or that he was ever guilty with her. Does not think that he was ever in company with her by himself, but that he has been so in the presence of other persons. Recollects of conveying her home in company with Betty Ogilvie, and that Ann Honeyman's father conveyed him back. Declares that the only reason he knows for the woman naming him as the father, is, that happening to be a little tipsy one night, he say Thomas Henderson who was jesting him on the subject, that if she gave the child to him he would take with it - little thinking that he was already named as the father.
Ann Honeyman being then called, her father compeared and stated that in consequence of having lately been confined, she is unable to attend this meeting and that she wishes James Porter, Crook of Devon, added to the list of witnesses formerly named on her behalf.
The Session delay the father consideration of this case, until they find that the woman be in a situation to attend the Session.'

Details: Compeared in consequence of summons David Morison and Ann Honeyman, who being seriously exhorted by the Moderator to declare the truth, and interrogated, they both adhered to their former declarations - David, in denying guilt and Ann, in accusing him as the father of her child. David being interrogated declares , that he did not know of the woman being with child until he was told so by Mr. Stewart, one of the Elders.- thinks that if he was to be accused as the father he might have been told so by the woman herself, who had frequent opportunities of doing so, after she was with child;- Ann being interrogated - declared that on one of the nights that David was with her she saw a light at Jean Brown's, and that she said to him she would cry when he said to her that by doing so, she might affront herself, but would not affront him.
The Session delay the farther consideration of this case till Sabbath next, and Ann Honeyman and David Morison are cited apud acta to attend. The Session farther direct James Porter and Isable Porter to be cited as Witnesses in this case.'

James Porter, a Widower, aged forty years, and upwards, one of the Witnesses in this case being called compeared, and being warned by the Moderator to tell the truth as if upon Oath, and interrogated, declares, that he has put it to David Morison whether he is the, father of Ann Honeyman's child and that David answered that he would never deny it, nor would let the name of Davie Bath go down, that he said this at Witness's own fire side. And he has said the same thing in Witness's house frequently, And in presence of Witness's daughter and nephew, that the last time that he said the above to witness - Witness thought him the worse of drink but that at other times he has said the same thing to witness when quite sober.
Signed James Porter
Peter Brydie Modr.
Compeared Isable Porter, daughter to the preceding witness aged seventeen years, and being warned to tell the truth as if upon Oath, and interrogated declares that she has heard David Morison say that he would take with Ann Honeyman's child if she gave it to him - that if it was a Boy he would want to keep it himself - and that if it was a Girl, he would give it to his mother - that people has said that he was not able to get a child but he would shew them that he was, - that Witness heard him say the above in the house of Sophia Nicoll in presence of said Sophia Nicoll and Janet Moir - that when he said the above he did not want drink, but Witness thinks that he knew perfectly well what he was saying - and that this is all that the Witness knows in the business.
