Fathers found
Family historians often talk about "brick walls" - problems with records that bring their research to a grinding halt. Illegitimacy is a common type of brick wall. You may have found a birth record for your ancestor which names his or her mother, but doesn't name the father. This need not be an insurmountable problem, and we developed our popular Find the Father service to try to help.
Since we launched the service, we've identified thousands of fathers using a wide range of historical records. You can check the lists below to see if your ancestor is among them, and order a transcript or image of the records. If not, you can request a free search here - if we can't find a record naming the father, there's nothing to pay.
