Details: '... The Officer intimated that he had duly summoned Alexander Macalpin & Jean Burnet as witnesses in the case of the said parties. Alexander Macalpin being called, compeared & being purged of malice & partial counsel & interogate deponed that he was in company with John Heaps & ann burd about four weeks before the new year & about betwixt ten & 11 o'clock on a Saturday night when they were coming along the shore betwixt Grangepans & Bridgeness; that john Heaps came up to the party consisting of him the Deponent & ann burd & Jean Burnet at the foot of the Waggon road & that he, & Jean Burnet left them at Bridgeness; that he does not know where they went after that but appears that they went east, depones that he can not say that he saw any improper familiarities between John Heaps and Ann Burd: depones that he does not recollect having seen John Heaps and Ann Burd in company so particularly as on that night, they did not sit down or stop any on the way to Bridgeness, & that there was but little distance between him & Jean Burnet who were walking together, & John Heaps & Ann Burd who were also walking together, that all this is truth & that he is willing to certify the same (signed) Alexander Macalpin'
