Join Dr Anette Hagan on a curator led tour of “Plague!” The new exhibition at the National Library of Scotland showcases eight contagious diseases that have ravaged Scotland over the last 700 years, and relates the cultural and social history of responses to such epidemics. It highlights government and public health measures, personal accounts in diaries and letters, moral and practical reactions by church people, responses in folk medicine and literature, and through medical investigation. Death and Identity in Scotland from the Medieval to the Modern: Beliefs, Attitudes and Practices is taking place on Friday 29 January to Sunday 31 January 2016 at New College, University of Edinburgh. 29 January - 31 January. This is the third in a series of conferences that aims to accelerate interest and research into Scottish death studies. The theme for 2016 is death and identity. Papers are invited to explore this subject within any period from the medieval into the modern day from any disciplinary perspective. Established research and work-in-progress welcomed.
