Saturday, October 15 2016, 2.00 pm The Office of The Lord Lyon Dr J Morrow, Lord Lyon King of Arms Venue: Manchester Central Library Anglo-Scottish Family History Society Saturday, October 15 2016, 2.15 pm Tongland Abbey Dr David Devereaux Venue: Gordon Memorial Hall, Castle Douglas Architectural Heritage Society of Scotland David Devereux (formerly Curator of the Kirkcudbright Museum) will give a talk in October entitled: ‘A tale of two Tongland ruins.’ He will give an account of recent archaeological and historical research on Tongland Abbey (founded 1218) and the Tongland Fish House (probably built c .1825). The Abbey also operated a fishery at the Doachs of Tongland, so the exploitation of this important local economic resource might be seen as a common link between the two sites, despite the time gap.
